In 2006, the Greenwich High School PTA asked long-time volunteer Kate Hohorst to take over running the Student Employment Service at the High School. They gave her the mission of updating the "technology" used to record student interests and employer openings. Greenwich has had a volunteer-based student employment effort since the 1960's, but in 2006 was still using the original tools: 5X7 index cards (yellow for employers, orange for students).

Kate enlisted the help of fellow volunteer Susan Corson (who joined her as co-head of SES) and her husband Jim, a semi-retired currency trader with a knack for writing software. The original objectives were modest - just a database to store information about students and employers. However in no time the imagination of the two co-heads introduced a level of sophistication no one had even dreamed of at the start.

By the end of the year it was clear they were on to something. As the word got out in the employer community, volunteers found themselves listing jobs for all kinds of employers - even employers in neighboring towns. And along with it was a chorus of employers, students and parents from the surrounding community saying "I wish we had this in our town!"

And so, in the summer of 2007 Student Employoment Software began working on a version of the software which could be configured for different schools. The result is HS-SES, our unique Student Job-Matching Software.
